Staying at Ohoopee? Here’s What to Do Nearby

The river is the main event. But it’s nice to know there’s more just down the road.

Most of our guests come to slow down, and plenty of them never leave the campground once they’re set up. We get it.

But if you’ve got a free afternoon, downtown Vidalia is a short drive from your site. It makes an easy little outing before you head back to the fire.

Here’s how we’d spend a day off the river while staying at Ohoopee River RV & Camp Resort.

Start at the Campground

Have your coffee on the porch or by the river. Let the morning start slow.

There’s no rush. Downtown will still be there after breakfast.

Coffee Downtown

If you want a second cup, start with coffee in downtown Vidalia. Birdie’s is a sweet spot for it, pretty inside and out.

It’s a nice way to ease into the afternoon before you start walking.

Browse the Local Shops

Downtown Vidalia is made for strolling. Take your time and pop in and out of the shops.

A few stops our team loves:

  • Market on Church: treats, goodies and local finds

  • Doodlebug’s: tees, gifts and fun surprises

Shopping small is part of the fun. And you’ll probably go home with something you didn’t know you needed.

See the Onion Fountain

You’re in Vidalia onion country, so you have to see the Onion Fountain. It’s one of those only-in-Vidalia stops that makes a great photo.

Get the whole crew in the picture. Somebody will want it for their phone background.

Stop by the Vidalia Onion Museum

The Vidalia Onion Museum is free, and it’s more fun than you might think. Kids and grown-ups both enjoy it.

Don’t leave without trying the onion grader. Trust us.

Lunch and Catching Up

Vidalia has plenty of restaurants, so grab lunch while you’re in town. It’s a good chance to sit down, rest your feet and catch up with your crew.

Need groceries or something you forgot to pack? There’s a Walmart in Vidalia too.

Then Head Home to the River

This is our favorite part. After a day in town, you get to drive back to your site, pull up a chair and light the fire.

No long drive home. No packing up. Just the river, the quiet and maybe a few s’mores.

Good to Know

  • Office hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM.
